Additional Information
Andy’s father introduced him to sailing at the age of 5, and he has climbed the sailing ladder in the traditional way, coming through dinghies before taking on match-racing. But his rise through the discipline has been quick and steep.

In 1998, Andy won the title of the World Young Match Racer of the Year. In 1999 he won the Bermuda Gold Cup and Cascadia Cup. He shot up through the world rankings, flying to No. 42 from No. 374, which made him take match-racing even more seriously.

It also made Peter Harrison’s GBR Challenge for America’s Cup 2003 look at him more seriously. Andy was hired as a back-up helmsman for the afterguard. He wound up as starting helmsman of Wight Lightning in the opening races of Louis Vuitton Cup 2003.

Andy is a graduate of the University of Southampton. Andy worked in a marketing agency between 1995 and 1997, representing British Airways, Ford and the New Millennium Experiency Company. He also worked as a journalist, commentating during three regattas.
