Additional Information
Although Jesper Bank’s family has no sailing heritage, the skipper can boast of a resume worthy of a child whose parents might’ve taught him how to sail at age 2. Bank’s sailing career began in the Optimist dinghy as a coincidence at age 12 because other kids on his street were sailing.

Bank’s accomplishments rank him as a cult hero in Denmark. He has won two Olympic Gold medals (Barcelona ’92 and Sydney ’00), a Bronze medal (South Korea ’88), the 1999 World Championship of Match Race Sailing, six other World Championship regattas and three European championships. The Gold in ’92 also earned him Denmark’s Sportsman of the Year Award.

But it’s the reception he received upon returning home with the Gold medals that he terms his best experience. “The enthusiasm of the victories in the Olympics and match racing was great. It was a surprise for us who participated that it moved so many people,” he says.
