Event: ACI H1 Match Race Cup
Boat: Jeanneau 35 One-Design
Designer: Daniel Andrieu design, 1991

The Jeanneau 35 One-Design was drawn by one of France’s noted yacht designers, Daniel Andrieu, who was part of the design team that created France’s 2000 America’s Cup challenger, the bright orange 6émé Sens. Andrieu also designs regularly for Jeanneau Yachts, and the One-Design 35 has won its share of regattas since being launched in 1991.

The One-Design 35 has been the featured boat at the World Championship of Match Race Sailing, France’s International Match Racing Championship, and the sailing versions of the Tour de France, Tour of Italy and Tour of Spain. The OD 35 has also won fleet races such as the trans-English Channel Cowes to St. Malo, La Nioulargue in southern France, and the Copa del Rey in Palma de Mallorca, Spain.

Weighing slightly more than 8,000 pounds, the OD 35 is considered a medium-displacement boat. Besides the skipper, it requires a crew of five. The boat has a fractional rig, meaning the headstay attaches at a point below the top of the mast. This is a common design feature on racing boats, as it improves the driving force from the sail plan while also making the boat easier to handle than a masthead rig of similar length.
