Event:Nippon Cup Boat: Yamaha 30S
Designer: Yamaha Marine, 2003
Coinciding with the resumption in 2003 of the Nippon Cup, the organizers approached Yamaha Marine about creating a new boat for their regatta. What developed was the Yamaha 30S, a small, light and easily maneuverable design.
Six of the new boats were built for event organizer Hayama Marina Yacht Club. Besides being used in the Nippon Cup, they will also be used by the Japan Yacht March Race Association to train and develop young sailors to become match-racers.
The hull and deck are a sandwich construction, with manually layered fiberglass and NGA gel coat. The keel strut is galvanized steel, for added strength when lifting the boat by its keel-mounted point.
