CASCAIS, Portugal (Apr. 21, 2005) — The fleet of Swedish Match 40s based in Cascais, Portugal, has been chartered by the Toscana Elba Cup Organizing Authority for use in the upcoming Toscana Elba Cup (May 3-8) in Porto Azzurro, Italy.
Today the fleet of six boats was loaded intro six tractor-trailers for the journey to Piombino, Italy. View a gallery of the boats being loaded at the Barcos Marina in Cascais.
In Piombino they’ll be loaded aboard a ferry for the 30-minute voyage to Elba Island. The boats are due in Porto Azzurro on Apr. 26.
The Swedish Match 40 debuted at the Portugal Match Cup in Cascais last July. The boat was designed by Swedish designer Pelle Petterson, with input from Swedish match-racing ace Magnus Holmberg and American Paul Cayard, the veteran of five America’s Cup campaigns.
