Russell Coutts (NZL) made it back-to-back victories in the Toscana Elba Cup – Trofeo Locman with a 3-2 victory over Peter Gilmour (AUS). Coutts, sailing with Danes Michael Arnhild, Jes Gram-Hansen, Christian Kamp and Rasmus Kostner, won the fifth and deciding match in the pre-start. Gilmour, sailing with Rod Dawson, Mike Mottl, Kazuhiko Sofuku and Yasuhiro Yaji, also placed second to Coutts last year. Full report to follow.

UPDATE 19 // May 8, 2005, 1220 hours
Russell Coutts (NZL) and Peter Gilmour (AUS) are tied 2-2 in the Final of the Toscana Elba Cup – Trofeo Locman. Gilmour won Flights 2 and 3 to go up 2-1, then Coutts won Flight 4 to even the score. It’s one race for the championship, winner take all. The winds are from the east/southeast, and varying between 10 and 15 knots. The genoas have replaced the jibs that were used for the first two flights today.
UPDATE 18 // May 8, 2005, 1035 hours
The final of the Toscana Elba Cup – Trofeo Locman is tied 1-1. Peter Gilmour (AUS) scored a huge victory of more than 40 seconds in the second flight to even the series against Russell Coutts (NZL).
In the Petit Final, James Spithill (AUS), of Italy’s Luna Rossa Challenge, also scored a big win over Magnus Holmberg (SWE), Victory Challenge, to win the series 2-0. Spithill places third for the event and Holmberg fourth.
The final is a best-of-five series, or first to 3 points. The winds are blowing out of the east around 18 knots, and there’s a three-foot swell running down the Bay of Porto Azzurro.
UPDATE 17 // May 8, 2005, 0905 hours
The final of the Toscana Elba Cup – Trofeo Locman, Stage 5 of the 2004-’05 Swedish Match Tour, is set to resume this morning. The first warning signal is scheduled for 1000 hours. Russell Coutts (NZL) leads Peter Gilmour (AUS) 1-0 in the series that began yesterday afternoon. The Petit Final will also resume with James Spithill (AUS) leading Magnus Holmberg (SWE) 1-0. The winds this morning are blowing from the east/northeast at 15 knots, with gusts up to 20 knots. It should be a wild ending to the first Tour event of the year.
