The final in Croatia between Peter Gilmour and Philippe Presti was a rowdy one, with penalties helping decide the first four matches. This sequence on the run to the finish of Flight 1 sees Gilmour luffing to avoid Presti’s transom. Presti had been penalized twice at the leeward mark of the four-leg race. He unloaded one of the penalties immediately, which set him a few lengths behind, but somehow managed to regain the lead for the final run. Still saddled with one penalty, he’d slowed to draw in Gilmour in an attempt to unload the penalty, but to no avail. Gilmour won the series 3-2.
