America’s Cup winner and multiple Olympic gold medallist Jochen Shuemann has been forced to remain ashore as the St. Moritz Match Race begins on Wednesday. Schuemann injured his back several days ago and his doctor has told to him to rest for at least two more days.

His team will still compete however, with Alinghi team mates Peter Evans taking the helm and Nils Frei (SUI) joining the crew. The Jury at the event has approved the substitution.

Similarly, two-time St. Moritz Match Race winner (2003, 2004) Mark Mendelblatt will be late in joining his team this week. So crewmate Cameron Dunn has been tasked with helming the boat until Mendelblatt arrives.

Round Robin racing in Group A is scheduled to begin at 11:00, but light winds will likely result in a short postponement. The forecast is for good breezes by early this afternoon. The Group B Round Robin will begin later today.
