Some of Sweden’s celebrity elite will meet in a sailing battle on the waters outside Marstrand, during the world championship sailing race Match Cup Sweden on July 4. Together with experienced elite sailors, Princess Madeleine will challenge NHL ice hockey goalie Henrik Lundqvist and many other specially invited guests. Ten sailboats filled with celebrities will race each other in Match Cup Sweden Celebrity Race.
Match Cup Sweden, the fourth stage in the World Match Racing Tour, has arranged a Celebrity Race during the morning of Friday July 4. Well known profiles and celebrity guests will act as crew on the ten race boats, together with an experienced skipper. Spectators will be able to follow the sail races on the water, where Princess Madeleine, Henrik Lundqvist, Tony Richardsson, Fredrik Virtanen, Pelle Petterson, Glenn Hysén, Dick Last (ÖIS) and Sara Lumholdt from A-teens, challenge each other.
In an exclusive interview in the magazine The Island, Princess Madeleine explains her sailing experience before this race: “I have sailed an Optimist dinghy, does that count? I actually went to sailing camp as a small girl, which was fun, but I wasn’t patient enough. I like moving in speed.
The sailing concept in Match Cup Sweden Celebrity Race consists of a Fleet Race, all boats start at the same time at a signal. Each boat then sail to their own bouy, rounds it as they pick a flag fastened on the bouy. The boat first reaching the finish line with its flag wins the race. Two races will be held. The sail races will be followed by a large spectator crowd and from press boats at marked areas on the water.
