The Alpari Skipper Trading Challenge was launched in July and we have since tracked the nine Tour Card Holding skippers as they navigate the Forex markets.

Equipped with Demo trading accounts and GBP500,000 in virtual money, the skippers and their teams are competing for top spot, which will earn each of the winning crew a coveted TAG Heuer Aquaracer watch.

The grand finale of the Skipper Trading Challenge on 26th September at Match Race France is now less than two weeks away and the competition is certainly hotting up. While last month’s leader, Swede Johnie Berntsson, has grown his profit substantially, it’s all eyes on New Zealand’s Phil Robertson as he jumps into the lead with a whopping GBP64,000 profit!

Craig Erlam, Market Analyst at Alpari (UK), commented: “Phil is trading extremely well having only lost three trades since the start of the competition. He is a force to be reckoned with. There is still plenty of time to go but Phil has raised the bar very high, so step up skippers!”

Don’t put all your eggs in one basket!

Erlam pointed out that skippers should be careful how much risk they should take, as Britain’s Ian Williams discovered: “After trading very conservatively early on in the competition, Ian put all his eggs in one basket, opting for one bold move in the hope of claiming top spot. Unfortunately, the risk didn’t pay off, and he paid the ultimate price for not using his risk management tools. The lack of any stop losses almost saw him go overboard, leaving him with just GBP582.93 and a real uphill struggle to get back amongst the leaders.”

But who is the dark horse? “It’s a tough one: Johnie has shown he’s willing to place the big trades and take the risk needed to grab the crown, while Keith also has a very impressive record given the number of trades he’s made,” Erlam noted. “If he can just increase his lot size and take the necessary risk, he could be a real challenger. My dark horse though is Peter Gilmour. Although he hasn’t made too many trades, it’s difficult not to back a guy with a 100% record. If he can just up his lot size or increase the number of trades he makes, we could have a very exciting end to this competition!”

The grand finale is near!
