Skippers holding Tour Cards are allocated five events, their best four scores plus Monsoon Cup result will determine their finishing position

With the 2012 season of the Alpari World Match Racing Tour well underway, the leaderboard will start to tell the story of who’s hot and who’s not in the race for ISAF Match Racing World Championship glory.

This season, skippers holding Tour Cards are allocated five of the first eight Tour events throughout the season. Of these five outings, the best four scores will determine their position in the standings alongside the result from the final event, the Monsoon Cup.

Tour Card Holders are still able to compete at events which they have not been allocated and will receive prize money and ISAF World Match Race Ranking points for these. However, no points will be contributed to their Tour standings.

An example of this, Phil Robertson (NZ) WAKA Racing won the recent Match Race Germany in May, beating Laurie Jury (NZ) Kiwi Match in the final. Robertson had not allocated this event so after the first round of the Tour, the 2012 leaderboard showed Jury as top of the table, on 22 points.

Points vary by event as below:

Non Tour Card Holders are also able to score Championship points from their first four Tour events prior to the final event in the 2012 season.

In the event of a tie at the end of the season, the skipper with the greater number of first, second or third place scores will be declared the champion. If the tie still exists, the two skippers will be ranked in order of their scores in the final event.
