What is the World Match Racing Tour?  

The World Match Racing Tour is a Bermuda based company owned in an international consortium, Regal Faith Ltd and the Match Racing Association. The World Match Racing Tour consolidates the world's top match racing events under a single name and annual series. The Tour runs from year to year with the final event being host to the annual prize giving. The world's top sailors are invited to compete on the World Match Racing Tour including America's Cup teams and highest ranked sailors in the world. In addition, the World Match Racing Tour offers opportunities for up-and-coming sailors through various qualifying events around the world.

Our Structure  

It is the responsibility of the World Match Racing Tour to create an overall infrastructure that ensures the success of our mission. Through our World Match Racing Tour partnership, we help unify the selected match racing events on the Tour, provide consistency in the rules, event formats, marketing, television and increased public interest in the sport to raise the profile of each event as part of the World Match Racing Tour Brand

Who run the events?  

A local event promoter licensed by the Tour according to this guidelines manual runs events. The local event promoter is solely responsible for the financial underwriting of their sanctioned event.

Does the World Tour work with ISAF?  

The International Sailing Federation (ISAF) is the world governing body for the sport sanctions the WMRT. The Tour has a long term licensing agreement with ISAF to use the word "World" and "World Championship title" and to conduct the ISAF Match Racing World Championship. The Tour is also designated as a "Special Event" by ISAF. This status has also been awarded the America's Cup, Volvo Ocean Race and Extreme Sailing Series. All of the World Tour events are designated WC Grade on the ISAF World Match Race Rankings, which is the highest Grading over the 350 events that are ranked worldwide. The Tour has an overall championship points prize similar to Formula 1 for the ISAF Match Racing World Championship.

What coverage does the World Match Racing Tour generate?  

In partnership with the individual events on the World Match Racing Tour and WMRT Television, the World Match Racing Tour produces over 150 hours of television coverage every year reaching over 180 countries via 34 broadcasters. The World Match Racing Tour website generates an average monthly readership of over 30,000 unique visitors.
